Lenny & Larry's the makers of Lenny & Larry's Complete Cookie, are probably some of the most popular protein cookies on the market. They come in a great variety of flavors, they taste pretty decent, have a decent texture, they're actually a good product. My only real complaint is the calories and fat are a little high and I find it a little disingenuous how the brand considers one cookie to be two servings. Aside from that however I'm a fan.
Lenny & Larry's The Complete Cremes on Amazon $5.99 for a 18 Pack
Lenny & Larry's had recently announced these all new The Complete Cremes, as well as an all new Keto Cookie as well. We recently had a chance to try the all new The Complete Cookies and today are going to be doing a review and a full rundown.
The Facts
So you get 18 cookies per pack, a serving size is two cookies, and the size of the cookies is about that of an Oreo. A serving of two cookies contains 6 grams of protein, 120 calories, and 5 grams of fat. You can checkout all the macros below for yourself
The Taste
So Lenny and Larry's describes these as sweet creamy filling in between two rich chocolaty wafers.
I personally would describe them a bit differently. Upon biting into these the first thing I did get a bit of sweetness of the cream filling, however the 2nd thing which I quickly noticed was how hard the cookies were. Not crunchy, straight up hard, it was almost like a stale cookie. As I chewed the cookie more I noticed how dry the cookie texture was. The actual chocolate cookie has next to no taste, and the longer you chew it the more dry and sawdust like the taste and texture is.
These cookies not only taste bad, they have a bad texture, and when you look at the macros they are pretty high in fat and calories for tasting so horribly.
This is something I run into with a lot of protein snacks and functional foods, while yeah you do get a moderate bit of protein your eating a snack that tastes subpar to the real thing and still getting a lot of fat and calories. If we were to look at the supplement facts of a real Oreo which actually tastes good, we could have 3 Oreos for 180 calories, 9 grams of fat, and we'd only be missing out on a couple grams of protein.
The Wrapup
Functional foods are great in theory, the reality however is that few actually pack a decent amount of protein. Most taste decent, but not great compared to the real food they are trying to replace. And lastly, personally speaking, I'd probably rather just eat 3 Oreos, have something that actually tastes good, drink a protein shake and hit the gym later.
