Halo Top Ice Cream Purchased by Blue Bunny Ice Cream
The company behind hugely popular and "healthy" ice cream Halo Top has been acquired by the company behind the Blue Bunny Ice Cream brand.
Eden Creamery LLC and Well Enterprises, Inc, have entered into a purchase agreement in which the Well Enterprises will be purchasing the Halo Top Ice Cream brand from Eden Creamery LLC. This expands Wells ice cream portfolio into five distinct brands.
The financial terms of this transaction have not been disclosed. I can only imagine it's a good chunk of change, considering Quest Nutrition was recently sold for $1 Billion Dollars to The Simply Good Food Co
Halo Top was hugely popular and had disrupted the ice cream industry by offering a high protein, low sugar, and low calorie treat that gave customers a reason to buy ice cream again, especially in this health concious, weight concious society we live in.
Halo Top filled a niche that consumers needed that nobody else was meeting. Wells Enterprises said they felt it was a good fit to their portfolio and they looked forward to broadening their offers to their customers.
Wells is the 2nd largest ice cream maker in the USA. Their current portfolio includes the popular Blue Bunny brand, as well as Blue Ribbon Classics, the ice cream that went viral earlier this year with wannabe social media stars licking their ice cream, as well as Bomb Pop and Chilly Cow.
Founder and CEO of Halo Top Justin Woolverton said Wells operational expertise will help strengthen the better-for-you ice cream brand as it continues to mature.
As part of the purchase agreement, Wells has agreed to license the Halo Top brand outside of the USA and Canada to a new company that Doug Bouton, President and COO of Halo Top will be operating after turning over the business to Wells.
