Smart Sweets Red Twists Licorice Candy Review

 

If you follow our blog here at The Supp Plugg, you know we're huge fans of Smart Sweets Candies, we haven't tried a Smart Sweets candy we haven't liked yet. My personal favorites are probably either Smart Fish or SourMelon Bites, but they are all awesome.

The only critique I have for Smart Sweets, and it's a minor one, is the colors of their candy, as you can see from the photo here, are somewhat dull and not very fun or vibrant. That said the brand doesn't use artificial coloring which explains it, and at the end of the day I'd prefer my candy that way, but it's worth mentioning none the less.

In today's post however we're going to be reviewing the all new Smart Sweets Red Twists candy which is Smart Sweets take on, I assume, Red Vines Licorice. 

Smart Sweets Red Twists are a delicious licorice candy with only 2 grams of sugar which is about 92% less than leading brands. They also feature 38% less calories than traditional licorice and contain 12 grams of plant based fiber, they're also gluten free and Kosher. So now what you're all wondering, how do they taste. They taste Amazing! The texture is a bit softer than traditional licorice and has more of the texture of a fruit snack, but are still great. As far as the flavor profile goes, these have a bit more of a berry taste than you might be used to from say a licorice like Twizzlers or Red Vines, but they are absolutely delicious and contain a fraction of the sugar as these traditional candies.

I would say these would probably fall in at around my third favorite behind Smart Fish and SourMelon Bites, though the Halloween Worms are right up there as well.

Smart Sweets Gummy Worms Product Review

Smart Sweets are one of the hottest products of 2020. For those not familiar with the brand Smart Sweets are a low sugar fiber filled candy which tastes great and packs 81% less sugar than other gummy bears with only 4 grams per bag. They also contain 9 grams of prebiotic fiber per bag, and best of all have a taste and texture almost identical to traditional gummy worms. 

Smart Sweets line-up of functional food candies include things like traditional Gummy Bears, Sour Gummy Bears, Peach Rings, Sweet Fish, and most recently prior to the Gummy Worms Sourmelon Bites which were one of my favorites. 

We had a chance to get our hands on a pack and gave them a try and overall we were very impressed. Now not that this is that big a deal, but one critique if we had to give one is the Smart Sweets advertisements and product mockups typically show brightly colored gummy candies that look just like the originals. In reality the candies don't look like the mockups, the colors are much more toned down and less vibrant. Now this is likely due to the lack of artificial colors and sweeteners which is a good thing, but it's worth pointing out none the the less.

As far as the texture, with some of the other offerings from Smart Sweets like the Smart Fish, the texture isn't quite the same as the original, same with the gummy bears. The gummy worms on the other hand have an amazing texture pretty much identical to the normal store bought brands of gummy worms.

As far as the taste, the flavors are a bit different than your average gummy worm, there's three flavors per bag including a Raspberry Cherry option, a Pink Lemonade and Peach, and a Strawberry Pineapple. The flavor of these is on point as well. 

Overall were big fans, same great tasting gummy candies we love but with 81% less sugar, only 110 calories, and 32% of our daily needed fiber allotment. If you're looking to grab some Halloween Candies that are a bit healthier you can't go wrong with Smart Sweets all new Gummy Worms.
